BECOME CATHOLIC

Becoming a Catholic

The Lexington Catholic Community welcomes those who are searching for a spiritual home. Regardless of your marital state or your prior religious experience, regardless of your personal history, background, or sexual orientation, please know that you are invited, accepted and respected at both parishes.  Your thoughts may include concerns about what meaning your life might have, Who or What God is, or how you can find real happiness. Any of these questions can put you on a path that initiates a journey of faith. We invite you to learn about what the Catholic Church teaches about these questions, how the Catholic Church came to be and how it follows the teachings found in the Gospels.

Our program of inquiry and learning about the Catholic faith is formally known as the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).  It’s a process that involves discussion groups, prayer, and involvement in community activities including our worship liturgies.  Through these experiences, one gains an understanding of what it means to be a Catholic disciple of Jesus.  Catechumens (persons who are not baptized Christians) are initiated into the Church through the celebration of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.  Persons who are already baptized Christians receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation as they are welcomed into the Catholic Church.
